Omar Quits Little Morocco Again!?: According to a post today in the forums, the word on the street is that Omar got into a fight with the owner of Little Morocco (on 39th & 7th) and has quit again.  Apparently it was over all the awesome food he had been serving in addition to the standard halal chicken and lamb plates. This just the latest part of a saga that stretches back two years ago, but seemed to be over when Omar returned the cart in April.

    More Free Sweet Stuff From Sweetery: Last week it was horse cookies from America's Best Racing, this week the Sweetery is handing out free ice pops (just in time for this sweltering heat) with Clinique. Today, they'll be near 59th & 5th from 9:30am to 10:30am, near 35th and 7th from 11:30-2:30 and near Lex and 59th from 3-5pm. Tomorrow, it's 39th and 5th from 12:30 - 2:30 and 35th and 7th again from 3-5. After your ice pop, they recommend coming in to the nearby Clinique counter at Macy or Bloomingdale's and trying on one of their new lip balms. Um, I think the free ice pop will be moisturizer enough, thank you very much!

    Taste of Times Square Returns TODAY: Just a friendly reminder that the Taste of Times Square food festival hits midtown today, June 11. It's setting up on W. 46th between Broadway and 9th Ave and runs from 5pm to 9pm.

    Dutch Herring Lands in Midtown: According to yesterday's Times, fresh Dutch herring is once again making its annual special appearance on NYC menus. The Grand Central Oyster Bar will have a special of $7 for 2 fillets or $7.95 for herring salad through June 22. There is also a $35 herring prix fixe option at Aquavit on 55th, out of our price range but mmmm....so much herring! The Dutch girl in me has wanted to try this every year but for some reason I always miss it. Not this time!
