The Opposite of Lunch, But you Guys need to Know: 1/2 off Late Night Dining at Xochitl

The upscale Mexican spot, Xochitl, is a little pricey for my liking. But Thursday nights are the time to go, when all food is 50% off (excluding desserts and the recently added tasting menu). Also, their delicious house margaritas are $5. This late night happy hour runs from 10pm-midnight. I was shocked at how few people were taking advantage of this. It is a great way to try out the creative menu without feeling like a moron for paying $13 for 3 tiny tacos.

Mexico on the Square Shows Us How to Make Their Super Sopes

Mexico on the Square opened 2 months ago from the same crew who ran the now closed Savoy flower shop/taqueria (which I first heard about from Luncher Matt). While they now serve sandwiches, cheesesteaks, burgers and the like- I somehow managed to look away and focus on the Mexican fare. I was psyched when I found out the sopes (thick Mexican tortillas piled with toppings) are made to order.

Taco Riendo, What the fat?

I had heard great things from friends about Taco Riendo, a colorful Mexican restaurant in Olde Kensington. The menu includes the usual Mexican favorites: tacos, sopes, tortas, burritos, etc.   I ordered several items from the menu. The ingredients seemed really authentic and I was ready to dive in to some cilantro covered meat to see if the food lived up to the hype. Unfortunately, it didn’t.
