Tending To My Salami Obsession: School Lunch Revisited at Jean’s Cafe

Back in 2010, I had a turkey breast, melted Swiss, bacon, coleslaw, lettuce, tomato, and Russian dressing sandwich that I loved at Jean’s Cafe. Though I am always trying new places for lunch, I figured 4 years was enough time to warrant a return trip. Jean’s seems to maintain a steady lunch crowd, efficiently churning out sandwiches and salads for the hungry people.

I mentioned recently how much I love salami. My friends even purchased this shirt for me when I was in middle school, possibly sparking my appreciation for the double entendre. At home, I still use the same technique my mom used when constructing my deli meat sandwich lunches as a child, about 15 seconds in the microwave to get out some of the grease and bring out the flavor. Thus, the Frankie Boy sandwich, with grilled salami with tomato and mozzarella  ($6) appealed to the adult and kid in me. I added avocado, just to treat myself, and fully enjoyed the final product. Jean’s sandwich was much larger than my lunchroom sandwiches.

I didn’t end up needing more food, but I picked up a- just alright- potato salad because it was only $2.

Jean’s Cafe now has a Wawa-like ordering screen in the back if you want less human interaction/more time to create an annoying customized order.

THE + (What somebody who likes this place would say)

  • Big, customizable sandwiches

THE – (What somebody who doesn’t like this place would say)

  • Why roam when you can make it at home
