The Mexican Food Stand Inside The Bourse
Last spring, I learned about the excellent chicken fingers inside the Independence Hall tourist stop known as The Bourse. Another food stand that stood out next to the Sbarro and pizza, was one serving Mexican food. At first, I didn’t think it could possibly have decent food there, but upon learning The Bourse also houses the Mexican consulate, I was less of a skeptic.
A fried beef pastelillo ($2.50) made me very happy. Crispy and not greasy on the outside, with moist, dripping with grease, ground beef on the inside. Also, an olive.
Tacos ($2.60) are available in hard or soft shells. While the al pastor I tried was salty and not a successful version, I really enjoyed the smoky and spicy chorizo taco. I was able to get mine with just tomatoes and cilantro.
For something larger, burritos and enchiladas are included in the menu.
THE + (What somebody who likes this place would say)
- A Mexican escape in a toursity area
THE – (What somebody who doesn’t like this place would say)
- I hate being surrounded by sneaker-clad tourists
