Midtown Lunch

I’m not usually one to have a liquid lunch unless you count milkshakes, so when I kept seeing Twitter posts from Frites N Meats about their Kobe beef burger doused in Maker’s Mark I was not particularly intrigued. But then a burger craving hit, the truck was downtown, and I figured it was time to taste some high-quality meat steeped in booze while sitting on a park bench. After the Frites N Meats truck ran out of frites during its second of a planned five stops yesterday (of which the last three were downtown) to celebrate being back on the road after an accident destroyed their truck, they promised to make it up to us freeloaders. After admitting on their blog last night that the plan was a “bit too ambitious” they announced plans to give away free frites during regular lunch service in the Financial District, Soho and Tribeca later this week. They’ll be on Hudson in Soho for lunch and dinner on Greenwich in Tribeca, and on Water St. Friday (but you may want to check the Twitter Tracker before heading out), with both regular service and free frites.

After an accident on the W. Side Highway basically blew up the Frites N Meats truck back in April they’ve been on hiatus. They announced that they’ll return to the streets Monday, and to celebrate will be parking in several locations giving out “100+” free frites. The exact spots haven’t been determined (check out the Twitter Tracker for details) but according to their blog will include the Financial District and Soho.

Yesterday it was Lil Jon slinging pizza, and today in weird celebrity + food news it’s burgers cooked by a former Knick. Lunch’er Deep sent in this shot of Charles Oakley at the Frites N Meats truck on Water & Broad today cooking up a special turkey burger on a whole wheat bun. Sounds…delicious?

Frites N Meats continues to make me jealous of Downtown Lunch’ers. As if their existence wasn’t enough, they’re doing a special “burger of the week”. This week? The Oinker: A Niman Ranch seasoned pork patty w/ bacon, gruyere and a spicy roasted red pepper aoli. Are you kidding me?
