Beware The Rotisserie Chicken At The FiDi’s New Roll And Go

Many of you who read this site do so to find lunches that are both cheap and tasty, so consider my assessment of Roll and Go‘s rotisserie chicken at its new location on Fulton St. (btw. William & Dutch) as a public service announcement: Your $2.75 can be better spent elsewhere.

The $1 pizza at Roll and Go is not terrible if you’re low on funds and need cheese and carbs. Some of the other locations serve sandwiches and other items, but this new one is trying to look like a streamlined fast food chain (see above photo of chicken that covers one wall) and the menu’s been pared down to chicken with a few sides to go with, pizza and shakes which are more expensive than the chicken at $3.95.

You can get a quarter rotisserie chicken for $2.75, or get it with a side and drink for $5.25. I tried to order just the chicken and a side, but was told I had to have a drink which annoyed me. There was some sketchy looking mac & cheese, corn, mixed vegetables, salad and roasted potatoes on offer as sides and I chose the last one. And since the chicken didn’t look super flavorful I opted for some hot sauce squirted on it, or you can get barbeque sauce.

The chicken itself wasn’t terrible, and I didn’t get food poisoning afterward so there’s that. The bad news is that the skin was not at all crispy, and that hot sauce tasted like straight up margarine which I’m guessing it may have been cut with. The potatoes were simply OK, and helped fill me up since there wasn’t a ton of meat on the chicken. If you want to be full after lunch, you’re better off getting a slice or two of pizza and calling it a day.
