Crisp’s New Casablanca Sandwich Gives You Eggplant Two Ways
As far as I know, fancy falafel chain Crisp hasn’t debuted a new sandwich in a while after throwing Asian and Mexican-hybrid sandwiches along with falafel burgers our way. The Crisp on Wheels truck has been talking about a new creation called the Casablanca on Twitter recently and since the truck only comes downtown one day a week it wasn’t likely I’d get to try it. Lo and behold, a look at the menu for the Fulton St. location shows it’s offered there too. If you like eggplant, this thing gives it to you in two forms.
The Casablanca is $7.35 and comes packed with falafel, babaganoush, fried eggplant, lettuce and Morroccan carrot salad. Strangely, the carrots were my favorite part of this sandwich although the fried slices of eggplant nestled in the bottom came in close second.
Other than the falafel balls, the biggest component of this sandwich is the babaganoush at the bottom which made up the last few bites of the sandwich. If you’re not a fan, you may want to ask them to go easy on it, or just order another sandwich. This is the second-cheapest sandwich on the menu after the base model, and it was really good. It’s up to you to decide if you want to pay $8 for falafel and fixings.

Fixed the phone number! I went into the store and had my sandwich in about 1 minute, so I guess that’s the way to go.

Andrea: My Casablanca looked nothing like your photo. The falafel balls were still cold in the center, I found maybe one fried eggplant strip and the carrot salad was bland. I’m sticking with Alfanoose.

The review, above, excited my very vegetarian soul. I work in a job that necessitates eating at my desk. Accordingly, I must have lunch delivered. Crisp’s Fulton St. location (the phone number you have listed is incorrect, BTW), unfortunately, let me down. I ordered via their on-line ordering system. After not receiving my order more than an hour after placing my order, I called to check on its status and was assured it was going out in 5 minutes. Fifteen minutes later, I received a phone call telling me that they were out of baba. To their credit, they offered to comp me my lunch, owing to the nearly 1-1/2 hour wait. However, fifteen minutes later, there still was no lunch. Midtown Lunchers who order for delivery should be aware of the Fulton Street location’s disorganization.
