2008 Readers’ Poll: Best Chicken/Lamb Over Rice Cart

It’s time for the 2nd Annual Midtown Lunch Readers’ Poll. Between now and the end of the year I’ll be asking all of you to decide on the best Midtown Lunches in a whole range of categories. You can only vote once per category (so choose wisely), and official results will be posted after the new year.

Earlier this year 20 Midtown Lunch’ers converged on Bryant Park to try street meat from 13 different carts in a massive Street Meat Palooza. A champion was crowned on that day, and whether or not you disagreed or agreed with the outcome, here is a chance for your voice to be heard. Here are the nominees for best Chicken/Lamb over rice cart in Midtown:

Vote for your favorite after the jump…

  • 53rd Street is an amazing delicious gut bomb, but I’m going with Kwik Meal for the quality and the craft.

  • where is the Biriyani cart? on 46th and 6th

  • FYI there’s another XPL on 2nd at 43rd

  • use the term “lamb” loosely … it’s like calling hot dogs over rice “beef over rice”.

  • the streetmeat a palooza introduced me to xpl and i really like their food. good flavor. i frequent the cart on 49th and 3rd

  • The over the top hot sauce of 53rd st. guys is as addicting as it is spicy. The lamb has that just right tender consistency that I remember from the gyro grease trucks of my mis-spent youth.

  • Trini Pak’s chicken over basmati!

  • 53rd and 6th all the way..nothing else comes close !

  • Depends on your criteria for “best”, doesn’t it? The quality of food at Kwik Meal is well above the others, but is it worth the extra money?

  • kwik meal all the way. The 53rd street guys have dry chicken sometimes. I like their lamb though.

  • if you thought 53 and 6th is good now..it was 10x better years ago like 7 years ago….now it bleh…the only thing thats saving it is the white sauce/hot sauce….try eating it without it…dryer then sawdust.

  • What is this stuff called back in the home country? It must be something other than the “lamb with rice combo”.
