PROFILE: Midtown Lunch’er “Dan”

So it’s Tuesday… which means I turn over the site to a Midtown Lunch’er for their recommendations of places to eat in Midtown. This week, it’s Dan- a Legal something or other, who is eagerly awaiting the opening of the new Sophie’s Cuban.

Name: Dan

Age:
32

Occupation:
Legal Technology Admin

Where in Midtown do you Work?:
Bond Traders on 58th & Park.

Favorite Kind of Food:
Soup Dumplings.  If you’ve never had them, go to Chinatown and find out.

Least Favorite Kind of Food:
The $8 Midtown Cold Cut sandwich. Make them wraps, and I like them even less.

Favorite Place to Eat Lunch in Midtown:
La Strada (54th 56th btw 3rd and lex) is hands down the best place in my area. It started out as a pizza joint, but after the owners started bringing in their homemade Latin food that’s all people get. The homemade food is so good the one pizza pie is shoved to the back and hardly ever moves. You get 2 sides and a main course for $6.00. My combo is the chicken stew w/ rice, fresh vegetables and maduros (sweet fried plantains). Just get there early if you want maduros.

The “go-to” lunch place you and your co-workers eat at too often: Our subsidized company café. Horrible food for really cheap. Of course we do get subsidized Hale and Hearty Soup.

Place you discovered on MidtownLunch.com: Daisy May’s BBQ cart. We need more BBQ places up here. Also, Sophie’s Cuban. It better be open this Friday like you promised.

What would be your dream job location for Lunch purposes? New Orleans. The great thing about New Orleans is that nothing is healthy, so you can just throw your hands up in the air and eat whatever you want.

Er… about the whole new Sophie’s Cuban on 56th St.  Some bad news- after the jump…

So they are still not answering the phone at the new Sophie’s Cuban (the number is listed on their website), but I called the other locations and it seems as if the new Sophie’s is definitely not opening this week (as reported earlier).  One location said “First week in February” and another location said “Two to Three weeks”.  I will keep you updated…. As always if you have any suggestions, Midtown Lunch news or you’d like to be next week’s Profiled: Midtown Lunch’er, just email me at zach@midtownlunch.com

  • Wow – Dan is kinda cute. oh and thanks for the lunch tips! See you at Sophies!

  • Cute? This guy looks like a complete dork.

  • Dan is kinda cute. I love the shirt!

  • La Strada is fabulous. I usually get the roasted chicken, steamed veggies, red beans and their killer homemade hot sauce (to die for). Yum!! Love your site. And Dan is a cutie-pie.

  • Cute? What’s wrong with these people?!
La Strada sounds like an idea! Thanks Dan!

  • LOL I’ve been thinking this Tuesday profile is a great way to hook people up. Someone should put up like “Also I am seeking such and such kind of person to eat lunch with at this kind of place” hahahahah. No comment on Dan or his shirt. I wonder who downtown lunch is though, maybe they can give me some lunch tips!

  • It’s a good thing they didn’t ask him about brunch.

  • Dan is right about New Orleans – pre-Katrina though. From his shirt, it kinda looks like he was rebuilding houses down there. Way to be a humanitarian Dan!

  • Note that La Strada is actually on 56th street between Park and Lexington, not 54th. The rice and beans are great.

  • Opps, your right Jim. Sorry about that, it is 56th. Thanks for commenting on what I said and not how my shirt looks, or if I’m cute or not. I’m not a piece of Bulgogi!

  • OT – Why would anyone here think you are a piece of bulgogi? Intriguing. I would ask you where to get the soup dumplings in Chinatown but I’d probably get the wrong address. Burn.

  • Dan isn’t cute, he’s gorgeous
