At Lunch Now: Fat Tuesday Edition!
I don’t think there’s a perfect Midtown Lunch choice on Fat Tuesday. Two Boots’ muffalatta is terrible, Delta Grill on 9th Ave is out of bounds (and out of the Midtown Lunch price range) and Jacques Imo’s To Geaux in the Grand Central Food Court is closed. So, only one choice remains. The take out, $8.25 Fried Oyster Po’Boy at Grand Central Oyster Bar. Order from the window just to the right of the GCOB’s main entrance (in the food court on the lower level).
There are plenty of places to drink after work though. Two I know of, in Midtown West, after the jump…
At the Delta Grill on 9th Ave. & 48th, $20 gets you one free hurricane, and all you can eat jambalaya, creole chicken, red beans and a crawfish boil. Plus they’ll have live music and 3 kinds of Abita on tap.
Up the street at Valhalla (on 9th Ave. & 54th), they’re having an Abita Fat Tuesday Party with four kinds of Abita on tap, Hurricane drink specials, plus free beads and t-shirts.
Anybody know of anything going on in Midtown proper, or Midtown East? Feel free to post it as a comment below…

Brother Jimmy’s has a catfish po’boy…but also its no longer Fat Tuesday.
I’m surprised you forgot Popeye’s. Now that’s a Fat Tuesday.

Love that chicken at Popeyes!
The Oyster Bar po’boy is …. OK. It satisfies the craving, but not in a particularly sloppy or lip-smacking way. It’s decent quality but a bit too clean and perfunctory for my taste. Now, the fried green tomatoes at Delta Grill on the other hand – I could inhale a half-dozen plates of those and keep going. They are seriously delish.
