Flatiron Lunch: Openings and Closings
It has been a while since Flatiron Lunch recapped area openings and closings, so apologies if this is old news to you. Lets start with the bad news first…
A friend who lives at the corner of 27th and 3rd just informed me that Grass Cow closed. I thought they had quality burgers, but apparently, they were no match for Shake Shack a few blocks away.
Grass Cow Burgers and Shakes, 347 Third Avenue, btwn 25th and 26th Streets, (212) 889-0089
After being crowned the winner of Bahn-Mi-Palooza in 2010, I was very shocked to see Baoguette closed. What happened, FL’ers?!?! How did we let this happen? After digging a little on Eater, it seems possible that Michael Bao is having too much fun as an Iron Chef in Vietnam. At least we still have Luu’s Baguette around the corner.
Baoguette, 61 Lexington Ave btwn 25th and 26th Street, (212) 532-1133
In other news, Tamarind and Tamarind Tea Room have closed. We knew that Tamarind’s chef opened Pippali, but I didn’t realize that this meant Tamarind would be closing. With Tamarind Tea Room closed, I could worry about where to get delicious Indian wraps…But wait, I think I need to officially check out Bombay Sandwich Co., so no worries.
Tamarind Tea Room, 41-43 East 22nd Street btwn Park and Broadway, (212) 674-7400
Flatiron Lunch’ers, we are not doing a great job keeping barbecue places open in our area. First, we lost R.U.B. Now, we have lost BBQues . They have shuttered their 6th Avenue location and will be reopening on West 125th Street. Do they know they will face some stiff competition from Dinosaur BBQ in the area?
BBQue’s Smoke Shake, 668 Avenue of the Americas btwn 20th and 21st Streets, (212) 929-4227
OPENINGS:
Speaking of R.U.B., Sushi Seki opened in their former space. This is a boon for lovers of high-end sushi, but not at all promising on the ML budget.
Sushi Seki, 208 West 23rd Street btwn 7th & 8th Aves, (212) 255-2988
Indikitch officially opened with a menu of “new” Indian lunch options. Early adopters, let us know how it is!
indikitch, 25 West 23rd Street btwn 5th and 6th Aves, (646) 590-7152

Baoguette always seemed busy when I walked by, but Luu’s Baguette is much better, so I’m not at all heartbroken.
