Urban Lobster Shack and Menchanko Tei Closed For Good?
This just in from Lunch’er Tom:
I just wanted to bring to your attention in case it was unknown that this location [of Urban Lobster Shack in the basement of the building on 3rd Ave. btw. 49+50th] has been closed. I was nearby grabbing lunch when I noticed a sign posted on the shut doors from the department of heath, apparently the business was “operating without a permit.”
They did recently launch a food truck, but it’s hard to imagine that as a replacement for their food court location. We emailed the owner, but haven’t heard back yet.
But wait, there’s more….
According to this post in the forums, Menchanko Tei on 55th might be permanently closed. We reported a few weeks ago that they were closed for renovations (along with their sister restaurant, Katsuhama) but it looks like the space is now up for lease. From the sounds of it, though, they might be combining the menus at Katsuhama and Menchanko Tei into one location in the Katsuhama space. I guess we’ll find out when they reopen!

The J&V pizza outlet that was in that food court is gone, too.

The lobster shack was very difficult to find inside the difficult-to-find food court.

Not only is it closed by the DOH…but i spotted a delivery guy leaving the place (last week) with bags in hand, sounds like they are saying FU to the DOH…i hope they get caught (i always thought their cole slaw wasnt cold enough, maybe for a reason).
J&V pizza was horrible, midtown isnt known for its good pizza, but any random hole in the wall was better than that place…tasteless sauce, and pizza = fail

Wow, if they are using their frosted glass to cover up the fact that they are still serving… that is just scary. WTF?!
