Pret Coming Next Month To West 45th Street
Last month, Lunch’er NYCguy posted in the forums that Pret, of all things, would be taking over the space formerly occupied by the Judaica store that had been in that 45th street spot (between 5th and 6th) forever. Sadness! I passed by today and saw the coming soon signage still there, so I became curious. A quick call revealed they plan to open December 12. With 11 locations already open in Midtown West alone, I can’t imagine anyone’s clamoring for this one to open, but in case you are, there you go.

Pret’s coffee is reliably good. Agreed, the lunch stuff wouldn’t make anyone’s day, but wouldn’t ruin it, either.
It does seem strangely close to the Sixth Avenue Pret (which I think was the first one in NYC).
Been passing by watching this store die a slow death for half a year, and THAT’S what’s coming? You’re kidding me (and right before Hanukkah, too–oy vey). There’s already a Pret on 6th betw. 47 & 48–that’s enough decent and high-minded but boringly generic food for one neighborhood. Please, Pret, your coffee beats my office’s Starbucks “Melange Maison,” but can you throw one new interesting ingredient into anything? We’ll be expecting latkes.
(At least one too many trips to Pret has taught me, sort through the packages. Each one is different!)
