Cer Te: Sandwich Masters/Freedom Fighters?

Certe DOH sign

Last week, we reported on Cer Te’s cheeky response to its ‘B’ cleanliness rating assessed by the Department of Health. It appears that the DOH doesn’t share the same sense of humor, as their modified sign has been replaced with an unadulterated ‘B’ sign.

However, I wouldn’t expect Cer Te to go gently into that good night, instead, they’ve posted a follow-up alongside the DOH sign arguing their first amendment rights. I’m not sure if first amendment rights are applicable in this case, but at least they’re taking this whole DOH business in stride. Keep fighting the power Cer Te!

Let us know if you spot any other funny or unexpected DOH letter ratings.

  • They are arguing for their first amendment right to commit fraud by altering that sign.

Maybe they can present the EST as EST 2005 (or whatever year they came on the scene).

  • This is lame. You got a B, deal with it. You scored a 26, which is 2 points from a C, so consider yourself lucky even. Next time the inspector rolls around, make sure you don’t get cited for let’s see (3 of 5 citations from latest inspection):

    1) Cold food item held above 41º F (smoked fish and reduced oxygen packaged foods above 38 ºF) except during necessary preparation.
    2) Filth flies or food/refuse/sewage-associated (FRSA) flies present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas. Filth flies include house flies, little house flies, blow flies, bottle flies and flesh flies. Food/refuse/sewage-associated flies include fruit flies, drain flies and Phorid flies.
    3) Wiping cloths soiled or not stored in sanitizing solution.

It’s not like you didn’t get a lot of chances, but you scored a 26 (9/14/10), 23 (8/19/10), and a 31 (8/05/10) in just the last two months.

This first amendment thing reeks of whininess. Instead of drawing more attention to your nasty kitchen by posting this BS, stick to making good food and people will come back regardless of the letter on your window (at least until they bite into a nice juicy flesh fly).

  • apply the intellectual capital to making awesome sandwiches, certe… making a big deal about this is below your pay grade

talk less DOH smack and more colonels heart attack

  • I for one think both signs are great, and I specifically went to Cer Te for lunch today to support them. Who cares about a little sewage on the sanitizing cloths.

This place prides itself on being a step above “the rest” when it comes to ML, but is just another S-hole with overpriced sandwiches. I’m sorry, when you go to their take-out space and look at the pre-made, tiny sandwiches they’re selling, you realize there is nothing special about this spot. Spend the money to keep your place sanitary or just suck it up. After all, if the food were so good nobody would really care about the B. If your favorite Chinese or Indian spot got a B you’d be proud of them. This place just can’t stand that its high-end facade has been ruined by the DOH.
