Pret Wins Best Midtown(ish) Cookie

Last week Serious Eats New York announced that they would be launching a city-wide search for the best chocolate chip cookie area by area, and today they declared Pret a Manger & Max Brenner the finalists who will represent Midtown. There’s a lot to question about this competition (quite a few missing contestants… and I don’t see how Union Square even qualifies as “Midtown’ish”), but one thing is certain… their post makes me really want to try the cookie at Petroissian (on 58th and 7th.)

  1. Chocolate chip cookies are GAWD’s gift to old men who have spent their entire life getting edicated, being good, and pleasing all the ladies.

That cookie does look pretty good for a New Yawk City cookie.

But, pshaw, I can’t see drivin’ in to the Apple for a cookie, so I will have to do with the beauties that my lovely young wife bakes for me weekly.

    Cheers!

PRET???? SERIOUSLY? Hardest, driest cookie known to man (thanks to sitting in that warmer for hours). And the chocolate they use isn’t anything to write home about.

  3. Pret has a good Harvest cookie. I don’t recall their chocolate chunk being top dog though. Oh well.

About 2 years ago, our office was on a Pret kick and we used to call ahead to have them bake a tray for us. We did this over a span of 6 months, sometimes more than twice a week.

Believe me, when they just come out of the oven, all hot and gooey, they are really good. Sometimes when you walk into the store at the right time, the aroma of the the baking cookies is all you can smell.

Most of us also packed on an extra 10-15 lbs.

  5. agree with joer. when they are fresh, are to die for.

the best cookies are from taste, a new cookie place. we order from them for meetings in my office and to send to clients. they are unreal. fresh, creative and top notch ingredients. I don’t know if they have a store yet or not, but we order from the website. http://www.tasteccookies.com

  7. SO… against my better judgment I went over there today. There must me some location specific magic happening because the cookie I got tasted no better than the toll house cookie rolls you buy at Gristedes and cook at home….right down to the slightly artificial preservative taste.
