New Grand Sichuan Will Be East Meats West
Take the Handle has a great interview with the owner of Grand Sichuan who discusses how he helped start Wu Liang Ye, stole their menu, angered their ownership, and built his Sichuan empire. He also confirms that there will be a new Grand Sichuan on 46th btw. 8+9th that combines “Eastern and Western styles”.

That’s a fascinating interview with Mr. Grand Sichuan. It tells us everything we need to know about why his restaurants are so mediocre. If you take the oily and spicy out of Sichuan food, it ain’t Sichuan anymore. And Wu Liang Ye is nowheres near the pioneer of Sichuan food in the US. It’s been around since the 1960s at least at places like the original Shun Lee.
