Hot Dog Cart Eviction Leads to More Questions
When a hot dog vendor fails to pay his $53,000 a month rent to the city, and gets evicted from his spot in front of the The Met, a few questions come to mind (naturally.) Slate attempts to answer a few of them, like “He paid how much!?!” and “Seriously? Are you sure he paid that much?”

I think this is good evidence that spot permits + bidding system works. A rookie comes along, over estimates how much business he can do, so he over bids, wins, then can’t afford the rent. Where as the veterans just bowed out of the bidding because they know what the profit margins are.
Can’t believe the city is sitting on a gold mine idea, where they already have a working system to imitate… but they wont’ do it! It’s free money Bloomberg!!
