WTF: Menchanko Tei on 55th is Still Closed
Hakata Ramen from Menchako Tei. Posted to the ML Flickr Photo Pool by Pabo76
This is starting to get ridiculous. The branch of Menchanko Tei (on 55th btw. 5+6th) that was closed by a fire in December is still “closed for renovations”. They had originally said they were going to reopen a week after the fire- which makes this lengthy delay even that much more puzzling. No word on what the hold up is or how long it is going to be closed for. In the meantime, you’ll have to make do with Men Kui Tei (on 56th btw. 5+6th), Sapporo (on 49th btw. 6+7th), or the other branch of Menchanko Tei (on 45th btw. Lex+3rd). Or you can just sit at your desk, staring longingly at the photo above until you cry.

Very upsetting. I wanted to go here the other week and it was still closed. I need my ramen fix.

I’ve been checking faithfully and it doesn’t even look like they’re actually doing any work in there.
Troubling thought: A colleague and I were in 5Guys the other day and saw what looked like architects and contractors with large architechtural plans under their arms. They were talking with someone from 5G in a tie and pointing at the ceiling and then proceeded to take pictures of the HVAC, lights and wall separating 5G from Menchanko Tei. Could 5G be looking to expand (not that that’s a bad thing) into the Menchanko Tei space?
I like their hakata ramen. Mechanko Tei on 45th is good. I had it last Nov. Hopefully they are still solid.
