PROFILE: Midtown Lunch’er “Sal”

Every Tuesday I turn over the site to a different Midtown Lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Midtown. This week, it’s Sal- a TV technician by day, musician by night… looking for a decent burrito. (Aren’t we all?)

Name: Sal

Age: 24

Occupation: Live Television Technician at Media 3 LTD (and drummer for the band Quiet Loudly)

Where in Midtown do you Work?: 44th St. & 5th Ave.

Favorite Kind of Food: TexMex.. specifically Burritos. But considering my options in Midtown, I’ll usually go with Japanese.

Least Favorite Kind of Food: I try to find the good in everything, but have no patience for bad pizza in New York.

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Midtown: Veggie Kati Rolls at The Biryani Cart (on 46th & 6th), and the Curry at Cafe Zaiya (on 41st. btw. Mad+5th).

“Go-To” Lunch Place You and Your Coworkers Eat at Too Often? We overdue our go-to places until we can’t take it anymore. First it was Goodburger (on 45th btw. 5+6th), then Moshe’s Falafel (on 46th btw. 5+6th), now we are aching for a new obsession.

Place(s) you discovered thanks to Midtown Lunch? All of this year’s Vendy nominees via the video posted, showcasing the best cart food contenders

If you could work anywhere (just because of the lunch) where would it be and why? Japan for healthy, delicious eats– Noodles all of the time!

Is there anything you’d like to ask the Midtown Lunch readers? Where can a guy get a decent burrito in this borough? Burritoville and Blockheads just don’t cut it.

Well, you don’t have to worry about Burritoville anymore, they’re gone. But I do have a little news on the burrito front for those who are willing to travel out of bounds for good, authentic Mexican food. Tehuitzingo, the Mexican grocery store with amazing tacos on 10th Ave. btw. 47+48th, quietly introduced burritos a few months ago. They’re not on the menu, but they do have them (along with fresh made guacamole, another recent addition.) I haven’t had a chance to try them yet, but it’s at the top of my list. And if it’s half as good as their tacos, we should be in good shape.

Got your own suggestion for Sal? Put it in the comments. And as always, if you want to be the next Profiled: Midtown Lunch’er, or you’d like to nominate somebody in your office email me at zach@midtownlunch.com

  • My dearest Sal,

Those are extraordinarily large and unattractive glasses, my friend. Plus that ratty beard hides your “cheeks of a snow-country child.” As they say in Gummy-speak.

By the way, you may be pleased to know that we have safely arrived at our condo in the North Carolina mountains, that the fireplace is roaring, and the fridge was stocked by our property manager exactly as we requested.
After unpacking the Santa Fe, warming up the place, and prepping the fireplace, Dr. E. is planning our dinner:

Tonight we will be enjoying my young and vibrant wife’s “Shrimp Étouffée'” accompanied with a Chesapeake Blue Crab salad, a White Zinfandel, and Key Lime pie for dessert (recipes available through my MySpace upon request).

  • Burrito Box is pretty good, if not a bit out of the way. What grown man drinks white zin? I mean really. The tuesday freak looks like he Twitters…

  • forgot, La Paloma, of course has brilliant burritos as well.

  • Your photo’s on backwards. Or that bag of edamame is printed backwards?

  • DocChuck, your wife is old, fat and not a doctor. She also has accidentally acquired several diseases from the convicts she treats in state prisons. How’s that for unattractive?

  • he looks like my dealer.

  • My wife is a board-certified neurosurgeon, should that interest you.

Sadly, even she cannot remedy your necrotic brain.

  • From the looks of your picture, you shouldn’t be concerned with where to get a good meal!!! Think about fasting for around a month’s time my friend. By the way, don’t listen to docChuck ,a.k.a. upchuck. Your beard and glasses are loverly!!!

  • Chuckies wife is a bought on the web Thai wife….called Tingtong.

They live in a PigglyWiggly Dumpster.

  • Japanese? Those sandal-wearing goldfish tenders? Bosh! Flim-shaw!

  • Uh-Huh! A board-certified neurosurgeon, a dachshund breeder, and an owner of a wildly successful chain of laser hair removal salons.

It’s a wonder she finds time to be a fat registered nurse working in a state prison and married to an obsessive compulsive lunatic!

  • Twitchy asked me to ask you if what you are attempting to convey is your opinion that DocChuck is, uh, well…….nuts?

  • Nerds Rule! Oh Yeah!

  • Wow. Just reading this entry, I feel so much less geeky. Decent food choices, but lose the attempt at hipster style. It’s so several-years-ago.

  • Don’t make fun of Sal! He’s always looked like this.

  • That must have been one gorilla of a baby!

  • Yo, Sal is my boy for life, and trust me, not a hipster. He’s just a man trying to live.
