At Lunch Now: Sakae Sushi Still Closed

Not surprisingly the conveyor belts are still dormant at Sakae Sushi on
43rd btw Lex+3rd, which did not open as promised, for dinner on Friday.
They are holding private, invite only functions right now, and will
possibly be open to the public by the end of the week. As soon as I
know, you’ll know…

  • I’m anxiously awaiting this opening too (I work a block away!!)

Not to bum anyone out, but there is a story in the NY Times today about the high levels of Mercury found in Tuna

“Recent laboratory tests found so much mercury in tuna sushi from 20 Manhattan stores and restaurants that at most of them, a regular diet of six pieces a week would exceed the levels considered acceptable by the Environmental Protection Agency.”

  • This is pathetic, I am surprised a Singaporean owned company can be so slacked. I was really excited when I knew they were coming to NY but I have the ‘WHATEVER!’ attitude towards them now. :oP

  • I am from Singapore and am so excited for SS to open!!! I loved their restaurant in Singapore. They have the best spicy tuna roll! Dunno if it will be the same recipe here but their spicy tuna has a more singaporean/malaysian spiciness too it. Their mini-okinimiyakis (sp?) is great too.

  • I’ve been to one of their branches in Singapore (at Takashimaya) and one in Hong Kong and found their sushi about average for a conveyor belt place and below average in general. You get what you pay for.
