Cheap Guac And Chips At Toloache Today

It’s Friday and that means it’s OK to stuff your face with Mexican food, right? In honor of National Guacamole Day, Toloache Taqueria on Maiden Lane (btw. William & Gold) is selling guacamole and chips for $2 (although they don’t specify if this is a large or small size). If they still have the $6 burrito Fridays going, this could make for a cheap lunch deal.

You have until Monday to tell us in the comments of the original post why you deserve to skip what's sure to be an annoying line.

Pico De Gap Truck Still Going Strong: Apparently the Gap truck giving out cheap tacos wasn't a one-week thing because they're on Varick today, according to the ML Downtown Twitter Tracker. Sweetery and Kimchi Taco are on Hudson, Rickshaw Dumplings is in its "usual spot" in the FiDi as well as on Hudson, La Cense is on Wall, and Frying Dutchmen is on Varick. Souvlaki GR is on Old Slip.

Musthafa Is MIA, But Does Zak’s Halal Still Serve Killer Street Meat?

If you frequent the street food carts on Broadway between Liberty and Cedar streets you’re probably familiar with Zak’s Halal cart (later known by the man always working there, who told Daniel his name was Musthafa). A while ago, this affable man disappeared from the cart and I’ve never seen him working there since. There was always a line at this cart, mostly for the awesome chicken over rice plate. Lately I’ve noticed that line has disappeared and I was curious if the food had gone downhill or if everyone else was just suspicious with unknown faces cooking the food. So I did the only reasonable thing and went to eat a plate of street meat. Update: As you can see from the comment below, and confirmed by a couple of lunchers, Mustafa is back! He was just on vacation.

Get Half Off At Piazza Seventeen: If you haven't checked out Roman pizza place Piazza Seventeen on Cleveland Place in Nolita, at least you can do it on the cheap. Priceline has gotten into the food deals game and has a deal for $20 worth of food for $10. The fine print says you have to call and make a reservation to redeem it, but also that it's good for delivery.

Koko Has A Take-Out Window Devoted To General Tso’s

I’m not quite sure why more restaurants don’t have windows selling one item, such as Luke’s Lobster‘s lobster roll express window, and the one I spotted the other day outside Koko on Greenwich St. (btw. Carlisle & Albany). Nearly everything on the lunch menu at this Asian fusion place is priced at or over the $10 limit (OK, there are a few items for $9.50, but who’s going to pay that for chicken & broccoli?). If you’re not choosy, you can get one specific Americanized Chinese item for half price – but you have to order it while standing on the sidewalk.
