PROFILE: Downtown Lunch’er “Sarah”

As is customary here on Midtown Lunch, every Tuesday we’ll profile a different lunch’er and get their recommendations for places to eat in Downtown NYC. This week, we have Sarah who works in Tribeca and shuns Subway (as she should).

Name: Sarah K.

Occupation: Event/marketing coordinator for a non-profit

Where you work: Church & Worth streets

Age: 30

Favorite kinds of food: Mexican, BBQ, healthy

Least favorite foods: Chinese, cold cut sandwiches

Favorite lunches downtown: Kale salad at Birdbath Bakery on Church St. (at Thomas); spicy falafel wrap from Baba Ghanouge on Church (btw. Reade & Chambers); tofu banh mi from Mangez Avec Moi Express on W. Broadway (btw. Murray & Warren); pernil platter with rice and beans from Sophie’s Cuban (Multiple Locations).

The “go-to” lunch place you and your co-workers eat at too often: I recently found the strength to permanently move on from Subway after one too many gross five-dollar foot longs. Why do all their sandwiches smell the same no matter what meat is in them?? So gross.

Places downtown you discovered thanks to Midtown Lunch: Downtown? My most recent favorite was the Eddie’s Pizza cart that sets up on Greenwich & Duane in Tribeca five days a week. Their $10 lunch special was an awesome deal for a huge, delicious eggplant parmesan hero, house salad, and soda.

Dream job location, purely for lunch purposes, and why: Atlanta or somewhere else down south for all the comfort food and BBQ!

Anything you’d like to ask the Midtown Lunch: Downtown readers? I’m always looking for more lunch specials in Tribeca that are not only super-tasty but make me feel happy that I scored a good deal. Also, I haven’t found my go-to Mexican or sushi spot just yet, and am looking.

If you’re willing to walk a few blocks, I would suggest Shinjuku Sushi on Church (at Park Place). Mexican is a little trickier but you could try The Bigger Place on Warren (at W. Broadway), or walk over to the Nixtamalito kiosk over by the 1 Centre St. building if you have time. And as always, if you would like to be next week’s Profiled Lunch’er (or know somebody you’d like to nominate), email us at downtown@midtownlunch.com.

  • I’ve been getting my taco fix from Shorties on Church and Leonard. They are cheap and super stuffed. Stick to the Chorizo and Pork as filling choices.
