If you’ve ever waited in the long line for the Cinnamon Snail’s shockingly delicious vegan food, you know the truck is full of bizarre and unexplainable curiosities. The most amazing being how they are able to enliven things like tofu and seitan with bright and bold flavors. Could it be the work of the devil? If you’ve been a long time fan of the site you’ve undoubtedly seen our man Brian Hoffman’s holiday themed videos.  There was the time he ate Sichuan rabbit for Easter, pie for 4th of July, and oblood sausage for Halloween.  But his latest might be his best yet, provided you don’t mind listening to a goofy white guy rap his way through a food filled parody of Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind”. The ladies from MVPleez step in to do the Alicia Keys part, and it’s kind of amazing how many food references they cram into the video in 5 mins.

We’re still waiting to find out who’s up for the Dessert, Rookie, and the new Market category of the Vendy Awards. But earlier this week, the excitement for the big day increased with the announcement of the six competitors in the Vendy Cup Award. While only one will be the official winner, this competition is really more a celebration of the vendors and their stories, commitment, and delicious food. Every year the nominees get their own official video documentary. This year they’ve all been produced by our friend Liza de Guia from Food Curated. In case you were unable to pay your respects to Prime Burger, which sadly closed its doors over the weekend, you can relive all the old school charm through a video produced by Lost & Found Films. The beautifully shot documentary short focuses on the food and the people who made Prime Burger tick. It was filmed before the announcement of the closing and is even more heart wrenching when you get to meet the employees who have made this place an institution for decades. This year instead of taking my mom to an overpriced brunch or sending her a bouquet of flowers that will quickly die, I thought I’d show her what it’s like to eat lunch in Midtown. Uncle Gussy’s was the perfect place to visit since the truck itself is run by a mother and her two sons. Along with Donny manning the camera, mom and I got to try their awesome Greek food and learn about how the truck came to be. This is the third in our series of holiday themed videos (following St. Patty’s Day and Easter) and probably the last one I’m bringing my mom on. Check out the video after the jump.
