Danji to Offer ML Budget Friendly Gimbap

Hells Kitchen Korean restaurant, Danji, has earned a ton of accolades since its opening, including a Michelin star. Frustratingly their higher end lunch menu has always been just out of ML reach, with a lunch combo in the high teens. However, according to Chef/Owner Hooni Kim, Danji is now offering a sub-$10 lunch option in its offering of gimbap – think Korean style sushi rolls – $8 for the meat version with a choice of beef bulgogi or pork belly bo ssam and $7 for veg. Early adopters, let us know how it is in the comments. (And more importantly, whether it’s enough food to constitute a “lunch”.)

Danji Gets One Star From Sifton: Danji, the modern Korean spot on 52nd btw. 8+9th, made quite the splash when they gave away their sliders for free on that Taste of Korea food truck, our man Chris H. is a huge fan, and now they've been given one star by the Sam Sifton in the NYT! The lunchtime set menu is a bit out of our price range, but the sliders are $10 on the nose! Clearly it's worth the splurge if you're so inclined...

Daniel Alum Bringing Dup Bap to West 52nd

A few months ago, Lunch’er “mewantfood” tipped us off in the forums about a new Korean restaurant called Danji currently under construction on 52nd btw. 8+9th.  I reached out to Chef/Owner, Hooni Kim (formerly of Daniel and Masa) who let me know that they’ll be open for lunch on weekdays and will offer rotating, seasonal lunch combos of “dup-bap’s”, which is an “over rice” dish. Every day, they’ll offer one meat dup-bap and one vegetarian dup-bap, which will be served with a daily soup and 2 side-dishes (banchan). However, prices are currently TBD (come on under $10!!!)  And yes, there will be Korean tacos as well.  According to their blog the grand opening is scheduled for December 15th.
