PROFILE: Midtown Lunch’er “Lexie”

Every Tuesday we turn over the site to a different Midtown Lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Midtown. This week it’s Lexie a PR exec looking for some authentic Mexican food in Midtown.

Name: Lexie

Age: 33

Occupation: Public relations executive

Where in Midtown do you work? Park Avenue and 55th Street

Favorite Kind of Food: Thai food (Pam Real Thai or Sook in midtown and UWS respectively)

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Anything by hostess

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Midtown: It was Menchanko Tei for their amazing menchanko ramen and rice balls–but it recently closed. Love the food truck on the corner of Park and 55th. They have an awesome brown rice, veggie and chicken combo for $7! Also, can’t go wrong with Grand Sichuan on 2nd Avenue and 55th–soup dumplings–oh yea! Also dig Taksim on 2nd Avenue in the low 50s. Amazing kofte sandwiches and great tarama (taramaslata), stuffed grape leaves and borek.

“Go-To” Lunch Place You and Your Coworkers Eat at Too Often? Unfortunately, Pret a Manger or Dishes.

Places you have discovered thanks to Midtown Lunch? El Rey del Sabor empanadas

If you could work anywhere (just because of the lunch) where would it be and why? Rome!!! You can’t eat a bad meal there and they have blissfully leisurely lunches. And negronis.

Anything you’d like to ask the midtown lunch readers? Where can I get amazing, authentic Mexican for cheap in midtown?

Got an answer for Lexie? Put it in the comments. Want to be next week’s Profiled: Midtown Lunch’er (or know somebody you’d like to nominate)? Email editor@midtownlunch.com.

  • Almost, guys – now just change the opening paragraph and the picture, both from last week, and you’re set…

  • dissing on hostess!!!???? WTF! How can you hate on fruit pies and twinkies–the most heavenly desserts on earth! You must work for that scumbag bloomberg!

  • i do enjoy my oatmeal creme pies…..food for a day for $1.50!

  • I mean food for a day in college when i was broke….for 1.50…

  • Closest I know of in terms of decent/claiming-towards-authentic Mexican is the Taco Bite truck. Not sure how close they get to the FiDi heavy parts of town in the 50s but I like ’em a lot. Rinconcito Mexicano is probably way, way out of range – 40th and 8th – but they’re gooooood.

  • FREAK OF THE WEEK
