Snack Box Now Offers Lobster Rolls

Let me start out by saying that if you ever come across a lobster roll in New York City that is within the Midtown Lunch budget, you should proceed with extreme caution.  Urban Lobster Shack once had $10 specials, but they’re $11 now in Midtown and now the Snack Box is doing something pretty close, offering lobster rolls in Times Square for $11.75. For those keeping score, Luke’s Lobster Truck and Red Hook Lobster Pound Truck both come in at $16, so Snack Box’s version could be  a real game-changer in Midtown West.

At first glance, the roll had slightly less filling than the trucks. Served in a split-top bun, the lobster itself was a mix of meaty chunks and smaller pieces. Mixed with more mayo than a Luke’s roll, Snack Box’s lobster roll includes scallions and maybe even a little fresh tarragon. I found myself missing the Luke’s seasoning on top, but I’m pretty certain it was on par taste-wise with Red Hook, minus the additional filler items like celery and lettuce. All-in-all Snack Box offers a very good tasting lobster roll, and if you have a hankering for one, you won’t find a better price in the area.
