The Comme Ci, Comme Ça Truck Has Returned!

After a series of unfortunate events, including an operation for Chef Samir and a bad burn for his sous chef, the Comme Ci, Comme Ça Truck is back in action. When I saw the good news on the ML Twitter Tracker at lunchtime yesterday I knew exactly where I was headed for lunch.

When I arrived at the truck at a little after 1:30 there was a crowd gathered. I took my place in what I thought was the line and waited for a few minutes until a gentleman in the crowd was nice enough to tell me that everyone else had already ordered and they were just waiting for their food.

Not wanting to steal Mamacita’s thunder (she did the first look at the place and had been wanting to try their merguez) I decided on their chicken couscous. It took about 5 to 7 minutes from when I placed my order to get my food. When it came time to pay, Chef Samir was unfortunately out of change. I managed to scrounge up the $8 for my chicken couscous in singles and quarters from the bottom of my purse. For other folks in line who didn’t have the correct change, Chef Samir gave them their food and told them just to come back and pay another time. And he handed out cups of hot mango tea to those who were waiting.

My chicken couscous was a nice sized platter. The couscous itself was light, fluffy and a bit buttery. Mmmm. The chicken was nicely grilled, moist, tender and juicy and was accompanied by tender cooked squash, carrots and zucchini as well as chick peas. After reading Mamacita’s recommendation, I got mine topped with some of Chef Samir’s own special hot sauce which added only a tiny hint of heat but a lot of flavor.

Chef Samir says they plan on trying to make their spot on 56th and Lex a permanent one. Hopefully they’ll work the logistical kinks out soon with the ordering and wait time. I’m looking forward to going back and trying more of their menu.

Naturally you can keep tabs on the Comme Ci, Comme Ça Truck via twitter or the ML Twitter Tracker.

  • Just back from the truck. No line at noon and only a couple minute wait for the food. Had the Beef and Feta cigars (2 per order – fried to order – or at least mine were) and the Merguez sandwich. Cigars were great – flavorful and light. Sandwich was huge and awesomely tasty. The only “problem” is that the condiments are on the wet side so my baguette was falling apart by the end of the sandwich….but for a sandwich this tasty i’m happy to use extra napkins.

I really hope they keep that spot since its a great addition to the neighborhood. I’ll definitely be back again.

    • Yeah, I went yesterday and second the deliciousness of the merguez sandwich (which they still had well after 2:00, probably because the word that they’re back is just getting out). I could see how the condiments could soak the bread, but I plowed through the sandwich so quickly there was no danger of that happening. Above-and-beyond customer service from the guys working the truck, too. I’ll be back soon.

  • I went there at 1 today and got exactly the same thing that brownie got. It was really good.

The only problem was they were a bit confused about who ordered first and whatnot. I waited for 15-20 minutes for my cous cous and chicken and another lady waited 2 minutes to get her cous cous and merguez even though I ordered 15 minutes before her… They probably just need some time to work the kinks out.
