Midtown Lunch

It’s raining, it’s sunny, it’s raining, it’s sunny… hopefully you can watch the forecast and pick one of the sunny afternoons to pop over to Tyson’s Bees truck on the UPenn campus to check out what everyone has been buzzing about. Chef Tyson’s truck food is inspired by Korean and Thai cuisine. I highly recommend taking your food to the nearby courtyard of some Penn building (I am sure some Penn students can help us out with the name) which has tables overlooking a koi pond.

Getting food at the Tyson’s Bees means that for every time you first open your styrofoam container you will be greeted by a visual spectacle that you would never expect came from a truck. It doesn’t even matter what camera you have, snap a pic of their wares and your friends will think you should be a photographer for a magazine. It’s kind of like taking a picture of Gisele, it can’t be bad. Oh, and it all tastes pretty good too.

Unforutnately St. Patty’s Day is not really recognized by employers. Taking a leisurly corned beef, cabbage, and potatoes kind of lunch may really be out of the question. But that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate a little bit, just be creative.  How about a Jewish deli style sandwich from Hershel’s in Reading Terminal. It is served up quickly, so why not get a little wild with it and bring it to the Beer Garden inside the Terminal for something celebratory to wash it down?

A little while back the Gayborhood coffee shop Brew-ha-ha turned into Cafe 12. While the drink menu looks about the same, (expensive hot coffee drinks, check! expensive cold coffee drinks, check!) a list of sandwiches was added. That is surely  an improvement. Each of the six sandwiches are $7.25 and are put together to order.

I have always overlooked IHOP for several reasons: my late night go to meal is always 13th St Pizza rather than hashbrowns, I am more of a dinner and lunch person rather than breakfast, and I can’t bring myself to frequent chain restaurants when great local spots are plentiful. But I was singing a different tune when I walked by and saw the sign advertising a Chicken and Waffles as a limited time offering.  I had to do it.
