Another Corner Indonesian Steam Table at Ramayana

What is it the draws me to the little Indonesian food spots around town? Probably the bold flavors and cheap prices. Here is harder question: why are all Indonesian restaurants located on corners? Sky Cafe- corner. Hardena, Cafe Pendawa Lima, Lil Java, Indonesia Restaurant- all corners! Curious, right? Or do you just care what I ordered?

Like Hardena, the fate of your meal rests in a steam table. One asset here is the friendly owner, willing to explain each dish. He also told me that in the Northern Indonesian islands , folks put weed on their randang. Unfortunately, that is not where he is from.

For my platter, I picked beef randang, chicken curry over rice, and lima beans. Apparently lima beans are supersized in Indonesia and taste like potatoes. I really liked them and could have used  a few more. Randang is always the test for Indonesian food. Here, it hit the mark on flavor and moistness, but was more sinewy than I would have liked. The chicken was skin on, first of all, and not crispy/edible- however, the chicken under that skin and sauce worth messing a mess for.  All of this- $7.50. That, plus a constantly changing menu is reason enough to head there more than once to find your favorite home cooked dishes.
