Mucho Bueno Serves Much Goodness

Luncher John keeps on trucking, this time at Mucho Bueno.

One of the new trucks making the rounds at LOVE Park and City Hall Courtyard this summer is Mucho Bueno. Ever since Honest Tom’s set up a permanent brick and mortar shop, Center City has been devoid of mobile taco trucks. Mucho Bueno helps fill that niche quite nice with its creative Mexican fare.

Mucho Bueno’s food can best be described as a blend of Mexican and barbecue styles. Like many other trucks, Mucho Bueno emphasizes the use of local and fresh ingredients. The menu is rather simple. There are tacos (available in servings of two or three), sandwiches, and, occasionally, tostadas. Sandwich selections range from barbecue pulled pork and smoked chicken to smoked tofu. Tacos choices include pulled pork, smoked chicken and sweet potato.

My first order was the barbecue smoked chicken sandwich ($7). Served on a Conshohocken Italian Bakery Kaiser roll, the chicken sandwich comes with coleslaw and barbecue sauce. It’s definitely a mouthful. There’s plenty of diced chicken, and the barbecue sauce is sweet and tasty. It was a very enjoyable meal.

Next, I sampled both the sweet potato and pulled pork tacos ($7). Pickled onions and salsa are mixed with the potato or pork, with Aji cream sauce nicely spread on top. Upon recommendation from the Mucho Bueno crew, I added some of the homemade hot sauce on top. Little did I realize that the sauce packed quite a kick and was very spicy. While the pork taco’s flavors still stood out and were excellent, the spiciness of the hot sauce, perhaps in conjunction with the Aji sauce, almost overwhelmed the sweet potato taste. The corn tortilla held up well and did not fall apart. With the sauces and juices from the meat, the tacos can be a bit messy to eat, so be sure to get several napkins.
Even with lines waiting to order, Much Bueno does a very respectable job processing the orders quickly. Try both the sandwiches and tacos. Easy on the hot sauce.

THE + (What somebody who likes this place would say)

  • Mexican and barbecue flavors: perfect together.
  • Big, filling sandwiches, and amply filled tacos.
  • Quick, efficient service.

THE – (What somebody who doesn’t like this place would say)

  • Limited menu, with selections sometimes running out.
  • Tacos are somewhat messy to eat.
  • Hot sauce may be too spicy for those with milder palates.
