Thoughts on the Best Value Lobster Roll in Philly

Yesterday’s post on Luke’s Lobster got me thinking about lobster rolls around town. Specifically, which is the best value. There is nothing like the luxurious feeling of having a mouth full of lobster meat like a boss. For me, it isn’t JUST about the juicy, sweet lobster meat.  Because I am really nobody’s boss. This is a blog about the lunches that give you the most bang for your buck after all.

Who clawed their way to the top?

  • I am going to have to give the number one spot to The Capital Grille. You can get a lobster roll, truffle fries, and clam chowder for $18. It’s really one the best buys for a fancy lunch in the whole city. Yea, I said it.
  • If you are looking for a way to satiate a lobster craving quickly for less money, Luke’s Lobster will fit the bill at $15. Or if you can catch it, the rare occasion when SPOT burger vends them at only $8 is clutch. (Update: they will be serving them next week at The Porch!)
  • If value is less of an issue and you are looking for huge pieces of lobster with more mayo, Oyster House ($26) or Pennsylvania 6 ($23) will do it, depending on which side of broad you are on.
  • As for spots to avoid, Del Frisco’s provided me with a lackluster roll.

I have never had a lobster roll. Luke’s is probably my best bet for the foreseeable future, although maybe I can catch Spot somewhere once my shifts change next year and my ‘weekend’ becomes Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for at least a few years.

Luke’s also kinda looks the best in the Zagat slideshow, as well.

The Capital Grille lunch does sound like a great deal, for that kinda thing…
