Good sandwich list, though it would have been nice to see some more out of the way type places, or at least a few more spots up here north of Center City. Dalessandro’s for the best cheesesteak in the city would qualify, I’d think. Porky’s Point for their Puerto Rican pork over there on 5th. Of course, I suppose those places aren’t necessarily ‘iconic’… but they could be with some help!

I’ve been meaning to get to Shank’s and Famous 4th Street forever now. Need to have my first Schmitter this year, too.

Finally hit Sarcone’s a few weeks ago, when one of my sisters and brother-in-law were down from North Jersey. They thought I was crazy for taking them all the way down there from my place for a hoagie (“what do they make it with, gold flakes? You can get a sandwich right there down the corner!”), but I had the last laugh. You’d think they’d know by now to always trust my food instincts. ;)

Funny thing about DiNic’s is that even though I admire (sounds like the right word?) their roast pork, I wouldn’t go out of my way for it (John’s, on the other hand, I would, and have done, more than once!). Their Italian pulled pork and their meatball sandwich, on the other hand… two perfect sandwiches, imo. Need to try their brisket next month sometime.

Still love George’s, and always have. TNT (tongue and tripe, onions and long hots) ftw!

Shame on me for never having heard of Stogie Joe’s until now. I have no excuse. Now excuse me while I go hang my head for a few months…

Walked past Beddia on Wednesday night, while wandering around aimlessly. Peeked in their window and realized I forgot all about this place opening up. More pictures on their Twitter feed, which I was just directed to last night.

Looks really good, especially that kale, onion and bacon white pie (though keep in mind I’ve never met a white pie I didn’t want to devour). I hope they start doing slices one day.

  • Jay- I didn’t love my sandwich at George’s. DiNics pulled pork is the sandwich I would get there. Sarcones and Stogie Joes are great. I have yet to go to Porkys Point but I have been to other Latin American food style restaurants in that area.

Sorry to hear about George’s. I’ve been there often enough to acknowledge that a sandwich does miss (or come close to missing) once every five times or so, so I can understand.

  • Porky’s Point is the truth in swine.
