PROFILE: Philly Luncher “Jill”
Though we have been lacking volunteers lately, on certain Tuesdays we turn over the site to a different lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Philadelphia. This week it’s Jill Weber, owner of Jet Wine Bar and Rex 1516.
Name: Jill
Age: 41
Occupation: Archaeologist and Restaurateur
Where in Philly do you Work?: My restaurants Jet Wine Bar and Rex 1516 are on South St. West and I do a lot of work from home in Fitler Square
Favorite Kind of Food: Salty – especially if it is salty and fatty! I grew up on Lake Michigan in a German/Polish town and my favorite meal ever is fresh-smoked chubs, fried potatoes, stewed tomatoes, rye bread, and a lemon bar.
Least Favorite Kind of Food: White – especially white dairy. Or dairy that is sweetened.
Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Philly: the Reuben at Sandy’s Lunch, Banh Mi at Rotisseur, any and all of Jet Wine Bar’s soups
“Go-To” Lunch Place You and Your Coworkers Eat at Too Often? See above. Sandy’s is that perfect combination of dive/corner spot with good (albeit slightly unhealthy) food and super-friendly owners. When I’m at Jet, I cannot pass on the soup or the deviled eggs, and figuring out which wine pairs best!
Place you discovered thanks to Philly Lunch (if any) I read every Mexican review but don’t really manage to make it anywhere
If you could work anywhere (just because of the lunch) where would it be and why? Naples. I never had a bad meal and lunches are meant for lingering, preferably looking out over the Bay of Naples on a sunny day with a cool breeze. Great fresh fish, spicy sausage, awesome pizza, excellent wines…
Is there anything you’d like to ask the Philly Lunch readers?
Why is cottage cheese considered food?

Cottage cheese & noodles is one of the six greatest comfort foods on the planet. That’s why!
Now parsnips, on the other hand. Those things are just all kinds of wrong…
