Argan Again, This Time for the Merguez

I was looking over some old posts and I was reminded of my lunch at Argan, a Center City Moroccan sandwich spot,  and how much I enjoyed my meal. This was all the way back in January 2010, so it was about time for a re-visit. Plus there were some things I missed out on with the first go-round, like the merguez sandwich.

While waiting for my order, I had an iced mint tea that was lightly sweetened, just the way I like it, and topped with a generous sprig of mint

Back in the day, with my first post here,  Luncher MWinston wanted to know the size of the sandwiches, so here is an aerial view.

For a non meat option, you can’t go wrong with the baba ghannouj sandwich.

I had forgotten how good the bread is here; it is probably some of the best that would fall into the pita-type category. My 3 veggie add ins were carrots and white beans, which I had enjoyed on my first visit, and potatoes, which I think were a good choice to make the sandwich even more hearty. I think it is better to think of the “choose your own” meat sandwiches (all $6.99) as veggie sandwiches with a side of meat,  because the amount of meat has been consistently small in comparison to the rest of the sandwich.  That isn’t a terrible flaw, because the sandwich itself is still large.

In the comments of my first post, Luncher SteveRoller wondered about the merguez. Wonder no longer, because Argan’s is lovely. The thin links of sausage were spicy, but there was so much other flavor going on, it is one of the most balanced merguez sausages I have had. I know I am using a lot of superlatives here, but the quality of product here is really that high.  The sausage sandwich  rivals that slow cooked lamb sandwich I had last time for Argan’s best in show.
