PROFILE: Philly Luncher “Becca”

As is customary at Philly Lunch, every Tuesday we turn over the site to a different lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Philadelphia. This week it’s Becca, who along with last week’s profiled luncher Claire, blogs for Downtowndwell and made that quail ravioli that got 3rd place at the Philly Cheese Experiment.

Name: Becca

Age: 23

Occupation: Paralegal and blogger for Downtown Dwell

Where in Philly do you Work?: The Cira Center (next to 30th Street train station)

Favorite Kind of Food: Anything pickled or spicy

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Licorice

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Philly: I like eating in the Italian Market. I love going to Taqueria La Veracruzana (9th and Washington) for carnitas tacos. 943 (943 S. 9th Street) has really interesting Argentinian and Italian food. One of my favorite lunch spots is Sarcones (9th and Fitzwater) where I get whatever special sandwich they have for the day!

“Go-To” Lunch Place You and Your Coworkers Eat at Too Often?Old Nelson (30th street train station) has great sandwiches. I like the grilled chicken with avocado and honey mustard. Also, in 30th street station is Delilah’s Southern Cafe, a place known for its incredible mac & cheese. If you want to splurge there is also JG Domestic (in the Cira Center at 29th and Arch). They have lunch specials, which make it more affordable and most people don’t realize that they also have a sandwich kiosk where you can get boxed lunches to-go. Check out the pastrami sandwich and some of his other interesting combos. For example, I love the one with organic sausage and homemade sauerkraut.

Place you discovered thanks to Philly Lunch (if any) Zavino

If you could work anywhere (just because of the lunch) where would it be and why? Vietnam. My friend is currently living in Ho Chi Minh City and she raves about the awesome street food she gets for lunch everyday. Everything from fresh fruit drizzled with chili sauce to rice bowls with chicken, ginger, and fish sauce.

Is there anything you’d like to ask the Philly Lunch readers? Where can I find the best pizza in the city?

Becca- I hope you picked up the latest Philly Mag- they tried 1000 local pizzas! And good call on the JG Domestic lunches, I had forgotten about that, thanks for the reminder!
