Simple Sushi, Complex Tea at Wasabi House

Wasabi House is a small and rather cute looking sushi spot that blends into scenic Pine street. Inside, it is just as small as the outside, with a sushi counter and a few tables for intimate sushi eating and BYOBing.  While I thought I was coming in for the $6.95 lunch bento, it just didn’t sound so appealing to me- I didn’t really feel like getting a plain old California roll and some plain old dumplings that were most likely frozen.  And although the signs displaying new menu items -bibimbap and japchae- sounded good in theory, I figured with a small kitchen like that, I should stick to the basics. More ordering philosophy after the jump…

Although I passed on the bento, I needed more than just sushi, so I got miso soup as well. For $2, it was a good sized and above average tasting,  miso. It was not watery and contained all the things I like to see in my miso: scallions, tofu, and seaweed.

I ordered the tuna over California Roll. My reasoning behind this was that it was simple, and that I would get a bigger piece of fish rather than if it were inside. I stand by my rationale. I got exactly what I expected, no bold flavors, but nice sized pieces of tuna over simple rolls. Soy sauce was definitely needed to add flavor. 8 pieces cost $7.95.

Iced tea is one of my things, I can’t get enough even if it is chilly out. Wasabi House offers both iced and hot home made cinnamon tea. The iced tea was spicy and refreshing. The addition of cinnamon makes it warming enough to be the perfect fall weather iced tea.  Can’t you just picture yourself strolling down Pine Street, watching the leaves change color, sipping a cup of cinnamon tea?

Before they open wasabi house II, wasabi house use to have a sushi dinner on their menu. the price was just right and it came with the right amount of food.

After wasabi house II, they modified the menu on wasabhi house and wasabhi house moved down the block… this is when things where the same…

I do enjoy their tea but I just buy it at h-mart and keep some in my fridge.
