Today’s Lunch (Aka Stuff I Need to Find in L.A.)

(Award Winning) baguette from Au Levain D’anton in Montmarte, Rabbit Terrine & Tongue Terrine (from La Grande Epicerie, Paris), and some random cheese

This was one of the memorable lunches I had this week… and not that it needs to be said, but I didn’t get in here in L.A.  Anybody know if there’s a place I can score a lunch like this between DTLA and Santa Monica? Because I have a feeling I’m going to be craving this again fairly soon. Feel free to suggest in the comments…

A Year of L.A. Lunching in One Gigantic Photo

It’s become an end of the year custom here on Midtown Lunch for me to compile every single photo of every single lunch I ate all year long in one gigantic photo. I’ve come to believe that how you view this piece of art horrific display of gluttony can tell you a little bit about yourself. If you look at the photo and think “That’s freakin’ AWESOME” then you are probably a bona fide Midtown Lunch’er. If you look at it and think “Urgh, that is freakin’ disgusting” then you are likely much skinnier than I am (congrats on that.) And if you look at the photo and it just makes you worry for my health, then you might be my mother (especially if it makes you simultaneously think “I really wish Zach had gone to law school.”)

Anyway, enough chat- onto the fat.  Every single lunch I ate in 2010 (from Spicy BBQ to ) in one gigantic photo, after the jump…

So Excited For the New Toilet Truck

We here at Midtown Lunch are firmly against April Fools Day (most pranks are sooooo lame!) but even we have to give credit to Thrillist LA today for their email about the new “Toilet Truck” hitting the mobile vending scene. Get it? Because the only thing more played out than April Fools Day pranks is new hipster street trucks. I wonder what the Toilet Truck will be sprinkling their seasoned fries with.

Welcome to Midtown Lunch: Los Angeles

So… here she is!  The new Los Angeles section of Midtown Lunch.  Not much to see yet, but give me time. I just got here.  For those who have never heard of Midtown Lunch (and I’m guessing that’s most of you who live here), it’s a blog I started almost 4 years ago dedicated to finding lunch in the food wasteland of New York City’s Midtown Manhattan.  But not just any lunch.  I wanted a good lunch.  A unique lunch.  A lunch that was under $10!  (Significantly under $10 if possible.)  I wanted my lunch hour to be an adventure (or barring a full blown Indiana Jones experience, at least a meal that would make me forget about work for an hour.)

You see I’ve always felt like there are two kinds of people in every office.  There is us, people who know what good food is and want to eat it, and there is them.  You know who I’m talking about…  that co-worker who eats at the same boring place every day, spending more money than he or she should on mediocre food simply because it’s easy, or convenient, or familiar, or, even worse, healthy.

Screw that…
