PROFILE: L.A. Lunch’er “Kelly”

As is customary on Midtown Lunch, every Tuesday we profile a random reader to get their recommendations for the best spots to lunch near their work. This week it’s Kelly, a cubical designer who loves pizza.

Name: Kelly

Age: 31

Occupation: Cubical Designer, Pizza reviewer for Slice and writer for my own blog, The Vegetarian Foodie

Where in L.A. do you Work?: Mostly Culver City, but currently spending lots of lunches in El Segundo

Favorite Kind of Food: Pizza! But I also love Summer Rolls drenched in peanut sauce, and pretty much anything that involves cheese.

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Again, probably obvious: meat. It’s not that I hate meat, I just don’t eat it. I’m also not a fan of mushrooms, but I seem to eat them all the time anyways.

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch: In Culver City I’m often at Versailles on Venice for Moro (rice and beans coked together) and Sweet plantains. I also love the Chinese Chicken salad -but I get it with tofu- at Green Peas (4437 Sepulveda Blvd), plus they have free wifi and couches to “freelance” on. In El Segundo I’ve been loving the Pizza Bread from Little Gourmet (117 Main St) and the Lunch Special at Sushi Avenue (130 E Grand Ave) – $4.99 for a hardy vegetable tempura roll with miso and salad!

The “goto” lunch place you and your co-workers eat at too often? When I’m out with my friends, we meet at Lunch (3829 Main St, Culver City) for build you own sandwiches… because I like my veggie burger with “unsusual toppings” and they are always happy to accommodate me. What makes it “unusual”? I get my burger topped with Peanut Butter, Fig Spread, Sprouts, Carrots and Avocado. It’s delicious, I swear!

Places you’ve discovered thanks to Midtown Lunch: Scoops Westside and Bawarchi! THANK YOU!

The farthest place you’ll drive for lunch on a normal day? I can sometimes be found chowing on the sandwiches at Mustard Seed Cafe (1948 Hillhurst Ave) in Los Feliz!

Dream job location (anywhere in the world), purely for lunch purposes, and why? Probably Italy for the mozzarella and free flowing wine at lunch!

Anything you’d like to ask the Midtown Lunch readers? I’m always looking for a good pizza! What are your favorites?!

Have you been LaRocco’s in Downtown Culver City yet!?  Still my favorite pizza in the area (with Pitfire being a good standby.)  Got your own recommendation for Kelly? Put it in the comments. And, as always, if you want to be next week’s Profiled: L.A. Lunch’er (or know somebody you’d want to nominate), email me- zach@midtownlunch.com.

  • Ha! I reviewed LaRocco’s on Slice BECAUSE of you! Its a great stand by… people keep telling me I should try the slices at The Coop on National, but it looks terrible, anyone know if I’m really missing out?

Mmmm, Pitfire, they just brought back their Pumpkin Pie (pizza, not actual pie)! I will have to visit them very soon…

Urbano is currently my favorite for pizza – but its downtown. Olio and Sotto are closer to you and are supposed to be very good. I haven’t been to either yet though.
