Sun Cafe Redeems Itself With A Terrific Sushi Roll Lunch Special

It’s hard finding sushi lunch specials downtown that are the right balance of quality and price. Often you pay $8 to $10 and get two skimpy rolls with an iceberg lettuce salad or cup of miso soup, and you’re hungry again in an hour. Or you just have to break the $10 barrier so you’re not in search of a snack right after lunch. I’m happy to say that if you work within walking or delivery distance of Sun Cafe on Reade St. (btw. Broadway & Church), I think you’re going to be happy with the size and price of the sushi rolls you get.

There are a few options of what to get at Sun Cafe for less than $10 at lunch, but I learned from you lunchers after a disappointing first visit that sushi is the way to go here. I went with the $9 two roll combo that comes with a nice side salad that wasn’t just a pile of iceberg lettuce and slice of cucumber.

I went with peanut and avocado and salmon with cucumber rolls. They were nicely rolled and large. I was actually full after eating about three quarters of them. The peanut avocado combination totally worked. There was ripe avocado and honey roasted peanuts.Sounds strange, but totally wasn’t. I’d also like to say that the salmon was of decent quality, and I liked how the cucumber was cut into matchsticks which made it easier to bite into.

I don’t really have any complaints about my sushi lunch at Sun Cafe, and I’m guessing you won’t either.
