Should You Choose A Torta Over The Tacos At Tacos Morelos Truck?

Throughout the past couple of months while office workers trickled back into the Financial District after the hurricane, and others took extended holiday vacations, Tacos Morelos continued parking in its regular spot at the corner of Wall & Pearl streets. Their tacos got a thumbs up from me, but I was curious about their sandwiches and headed over for a torta.

This $6 breaded beef torta doesn’t look like a very hefty sandwich, but it is indeed. You get two thinly-pounded pieces of beef that are pre-breaded and warmed on the flat top, and then a mound of iceberg lettuce, avocado, tomato, pickled jalapeno (if you choose), a couple of slices of white cheese and a squirt of mayo are added to the big white roll.

I don’t know that I’d go with the beef again as it didn’t have much flavor other than salt, and was a little hard to bite through. The pickled jalapeno was a nice touch as was the avocado. All in all this was a filling lunch for when you need a break from street meat or tacos. I still think the tacos are the star of this truck’s show, but if you want a sandwich you could do a lot worse than a Tacos Morelos torta.
