PROFILE: Downtown Lunch’er “Yael”

As is customary here on Midtown Lunch, every Tuesday we’ll profile a different lunch’er and get their recommendations for places to eat in Downtown NYC. This week, we have Yael who eats at Zeytuna out of convenience and is just trying to find a lunch spot that doesn’t require wearing a coat.

Calexico Carts Out In The Slush: The gross weather has only kept a couple of trucks off the street today according to the ML Downtown Twitter Tracker...Rickshaw is on Hudson with a special dumpling, both Calexico carts are up and running, Korilla is on Varick but running a little late. And as previously mentioned you can finally get your hands on a sabich at Taim Mobile on Hudson.

Taim Mobile Debuting Sabich Today!

width= A couple of weeks ago our hopes of Taim Mobile serving its sabich were raised and then dashed as it turned out to be a misunderstanding. Well, today you can finally get your hands on this much-loved egg and eggplant sandwich as a special at the truck’s location on Hudson St. in Soho. Early adopters feel free to tell us what you thought in the comments. Photo courtesy of Serious Eats.

A Sandwich At Acquedolci Changed My Opinion Of Eggplant

The thought of eating at most of the places in Little Italy is unappealing partly due to the crowds and partly because they try to lure you in with super cheap food that lives up to the phrase “You get what you pay for.” And I would rather not eat a giant plate of sub-par pasta in the company of tourists.

Lunch’er Danielle had recommended the shop, saying she and her office mates order delivery from there all of the time. I decided to head up there since I’m sure a lot of people working on the edges of Soho and Nolita eat in this neighborhood frequently. And I would be crazy to turn down an Italian sandwich recommendation. Read more »

Calexico Switching It Up With Lamb: There are a few options to start your weekend off right, according to the ML Downtown Twitter Tracker...Calexico has both carts out, with ground lamb and garlic crema at the one on Prince. Frites N Meats is on Water, Rickshaw is on Wall and Sweetery is on Hudson. Taim is also on Hudson with harissa falafel.
