Brooklyn Popcorn Truck Has Been Parking in Midtown
You would think that being the co-author of what is going to be *the* book on New York City street food, I would know ALL the trucks. I don’t. And even I can be wandering around the city and come across a newbie, like Brooklyn Popcorn. It’s been open and roaming around for three weeks. I’m obviously off my game, but you know that I stopped by to get some popcorn.
Brooklyn Popcorn is what happens when a popcorn industry professional meets a food truck owner. The popcorn is popped fresh and not nearly as greasy as Garrett’s. The flavors yesterday included dill, bbq, and regular. But I wanted to pretend that I was devouring one of the holiday popcorn tins, so I went with cheddar and caramel.
The powdered cheese deliciousness coated my fingers in a layer of orange dust and the salty/sweet combination was the thing holiday breaks are made of. There was definitely more cheese flavoring on these kernels than I have usually used to, there was even some leftover in the bottom of the page (if you’re into that sort of thing.)
You can get a small bag like this one for $4, or the large for $5. The small one was enough to keep me munching through the afternoon, cheesy digits and all. The truck owners say that they’ve been hitting up Midtown this week, so keep an eye on their Twitter (@brooklynpopcorn) or the ML Twitter Tracker if you’re a popcorn fiend. Picking up a bag of this is really much better than stinking up your office with the microwaved kind.

I saw it parked in a spot normally used by Mr. Softee recently. Whatever
