Salad Pizza?!

Over the past year Cer Te (on 55th btw. 5+6th) has completely changed the way we think about sandwiches. Now Pizza by Cer Te (on 56th btw. Lex+Park) wants to change the way we think about salad by introducing 3 new chopped salad topped pizzas (Veggie Cobb, Chx Caesar, & Roman).  We’re not really into salads, but if anybody is going to change our minds…

  • You don’t win friends with salad.

    (Actually this sounds pretty awesome)

  • Blasphemy! Where is KCI to back me up?

  • Not big on salad. Chix Caesar might be worth a try.

I’m sure I had salad pizza at a local joint before but nothing fancy-schmancy.

A place I grew up near made a taco salad pizza that was pretty good. Ground beef, tomato, onion, lettuce, cheddar cheese and taco sauce.

  • Back in the 90’s when I lived on the UES, I got salad pizza from Anna Maria’s on 87th and 1st at least twice a week. It was phenomenal. It was a sad day when they closed shop.

I believe I’ve posted this before in response to stories about stuff called pizza that isn’t really pizza…

KRAMER (puts the dough on the counter): Alright, put a little sauce on here… Some cheese…
    POPPIE: Not too much!
    KRAMER: And…cucumbers!
POPPIE: Wait a second…what is that?
    KRAMER: It’s cucumbers.
POPPIE: No, no. You can’t put cucumbers on a pizza.
KRAMER: Well, why not? I like cucumbers.
POPPIE: That’s not a pizza. It’ll taste terrible.
KRAMER: But that’s the idea, you make your own pie.
POPPIE: Yes, but we cannot give the people the right to choose any topping they want! Now on this issue there can be no debate!
KRAMER: What gives you the right to tell me how I would make my pie?
    POPPIE: Because it’s a pizza!
KRAMER: It’s not a pizza until it comes out of the oven!
POPPIE: It’s a pizza the moment you put your fists in the dough!
    KRAMER: No, it isn’t!
    POPPIE: Yes, it is!

  • The pizzerias in my neighborhood all offer salad pizza. I think it’s to cater to the local college crowd. It’s cheaper, and “healthier” I guess.

Many of the comments mention this, but I must speak up, as well. Salad pizza has been around forever. This is nothing new. It is that simple.
