Boar’s Head Only at N.Y. Deli

N.Y. Deli opened in March next to one of my favorite pizza places- NYPD Pizza. I was thinking/hoping that N.Y. Deli might follow the same style as the pizza place, and serve super awesome NY deli style sandwiches, home made pastrami, etc. (Not that we don’t have great local spots for that) Instead, N.Y. Deli has a different formula- Boar’s Head sandwiches only.

Pesto or Bruschetta, Primo’s says we can have Both

Primo’s has locations all around Philly, NJ, and Delaware. And as most people in Philly know, they do sandwiches, “hoagies”.

From the long list of hoagies, I chose the Whacked Chicken Cutlet, with sharp provolone plus not only pesto, but bruschetta on top too.

Korean Cheesesteak is a Great Idea

Back in September, Nick raved about the bulgogi platter at the Koja truck. On a return trip I wanted something less plattery, more portable, and as cheap as possible. My eyes immediately went to the cheapest meal on the menu- a $3 bulgogi cheesesteak. Same great meat, lower price, portable, perfect. Was this going to be kid sized though?

Spy on Strangers and Have a Melt at Perch Pub

Last week, we profiled Anthony, a manager at Perch Pub. Perch Pub opened in January, taking over the Upstares at Varalli space on the 2nd floor over Broad and Locust, which I think was a brilliant call. I never would have thought to go in there before, it seemed stuffy, but now it’s a pub with an awesome beer list and some great snacks to go with it. And it’s in a great location, whether you are playing pool or darts in the back or sitting by the window secretly watching people on Broad St.  Finally, they just started lunch hour service.

Pre Passover Carbo Loading with a Perfect Panini from Jays

Tonight is the first night of Passover, so a sandwich on hearty bread was in order before sundown. I recalled Hawk’s report about this awesome sounding cranberry chicken salad sandwich as Jay’s Deli. Jay’s looks like any other deli, but the sandwich counter has some great things going on. I figured this would be the perfect, simple, last bready meal of the week.

Zaffron for Shawarma (and because you asked for pictures)

Does the newish Mediterranean spot in the Liberty Place Food Court make anyone else immediately think of teen movie star Zac Efron? Unfortunately Zaffron offers less singing. Fortunately, it also offers less hair.

You can order from Zaffron’s signature menu of wraps, salads, or over rice “entrees” or you can choose your own and take advantage of the add ins bar. You can pick one of the main ingredients, including chicken, beef, falafel, and  shawarma, to be a part of your meal.  Mary had reported enjoying the falafel and the add ins bar. I came back since you all asked for pictures, and to try the shawarma

Vegan Banh Mi at Loving Hut

Loving Hut opened on South Street this summer. I have to admit, this wasn’t an opening that thrilled me. Its all vegan, I like meat. But I have started to really enjoy meat substitute lunches, like Govinda’s Cheesesteak. So when I was walking by and hungry, the Loving Hut signed beckoned.
