A Trip to the New Location of Nan Zhou Hand Drawn Noodle House

Its downright crazy that  I have only eaten at Nan Zhou Hand Drawn Noodle once and that the one time was 2 years ago AND before the move to the bigger location. Silly me. Last time I dug into the braised oxtail hand pulled noodle soup. I applaud my past self for choosing something a little funkier. For this visit, I had to pick a different version of the soup, plus I had to explore the menu a lot more.

Thai Lunch Specials at Spice 28

Sakura Mandarin is a favorite Chinatown spot of mine, so I was excited to check out the new, more fusiony restaurant by the same guys. While Sakura has sushi and Mandarin style food, Spice 28 has Szechuan and Thai food. With its trendy decor and slightly higher prices, would I still be impressed by the food?

Press Hard on the Touch Screens at Honeygrow for A Healthy Lunch, And Don’t Forget Dessert

Luncher John is checking out the newly opened Honeygrow.

The first week of June featured the debut of two notable lunch spots in Center City. There was Shake Shack, where the lines have yet to die down. Less hyped but almost as popular since its opening is Honeygrow, which is located near the corner of 16th and Sansom. With its two-pronged focus of “honest eating” + “local growing”, Honeygrow has immediately appealed to those seeking healthier and better tasting lunch food than traditional lunch fare.

Having previously braved the Shake Shack lunch line, I was ready for the Honeygrow lunch crowd. While the wait can be a bit maddening, fortunately, the food makes up for it.

Pho 75, Pho in Love

Last week I told you guys about my last meal before Passover, as big Italian sandwich from Sarcone’s. I needed some serious carbs to break the week of no “chamatz” (bread products, including noodles).  It looks like I  make a habit out of ending Passover with Asian noodles; 2 years ago I broke with Nan Zhou and this year Pho 75 fit the bill.

Pho 75 is located at the corner of a Viet shopping plaza on Washington Avenue. Whereas Pho Hoa has a book for a menu, Pho 75 has a single page and its pho only. Pho, things to put in your pho, and drinks, nothing else.  But unlike Pho Hoa, Pho 75 nails their one menu item.

Soup at Pho Hoa: The Pho Bo Kho is Pho’s Snazzy Best Friend

Pho Hoa is an international chain, which had previously persuaded me to seek my Viet soup elsewhere. But when I bit the bullet and dined there, I was pleasantly surprised by one soup in particular.

Sammy’s Korean BBQ: Come for the KFC, Stay for Everything Else

Earlier this month Sammy Chon’s Korean Restaurant opened up a Philadelphia branch in Chinatown. The opening brought  much excitement to lovers of the Koagie (spicy meat sandwich), Korean fried chicken, and Korean barbeque. To make matters better, affordable lunch specials are available during the week until 3:00, which is huge because Korean bbq can sometimes be a little pricey.
