Hot Diggity’s New Sides Can’t Trump the Hot Dogs

Labor Day weekend is approaching. That puts me in the mood for classic American eats. Until I can have my Dad grill up some hotdogs to a perfect crisp, Hot Diggity on South Street satisfies my American needs. I love their treatment of Sabrett dogs. Last week, they added new menu items, including side dishes and burgers. A good excuse to head over.

PROFILE: Philly Luncher “Katie”

As we try to do at Philly Lunch, some Tuesdays we turn over the site to a different lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Philadelphia. This week it’s Katie, who frequents many of Philly’s healthier lunch spots.

Name: Katie

Age: 31

Occupation: Special Events and Communications Director

Where in Philly do you Work?: Clean Air Council in Center City

Favorite Kind of Food: Tacos, local fruits and veggies

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Peanut Butter…I get a lot of flack for this.

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Philly: I love checking out the food trucks in Love Park. Farm Truck is one of my favorites because they are always using really fresh local seasonal ingredients in a fun way. Their tofu tacos make my mouth water. I’m excited for what they are going to be serving at Greenfest Philly this year. I also love Pure Fare and Agno Grill for healthy delicious lunches and they support Clean Air Council’s Dine Out for the Environment.

Free Tacos

Eater reports that Lolita will be giving out free tacos today to promote their new LUNCH menu. I am pretty psyched they are realizing locals like to eat well for lunch too! Main dishes range from $9-$15.

Spicy Lassis and Fruity Chaat from Mood Cafe

As the #2 most popular restaurant in the city of Philadelphia, Mood Cafe has a perfect score. What could possibly have an entire city so enthralled-crunchy bits, covered in a mix of colorful sauces, with vegetarian and meat options.  Mood Cafe serves chaat and lassis to the lucky people of West Philly and visitors. I didn’t realize until after I was finished eating here that the same intense guy also owns Desi Chaat House, which I enjoyed a few years ago. Both are located along Baltimore Avenue (in the 40’s) along with Desi Village that I have yet to visit, which makes me jealous that my neighborhood doesn’t have even ONE quick chaat take out shop for me.

PROFILE: Philly Luncher “Kayli”

As we try to do at Philly Lunch, some Tuesdays we turn over the site to a different lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Philadelphia. This week it’s Kayli, a red meat lover who is running Philly’s Diner en Blanc this week.

Name: Kayli

Age: 31 (well, I’ll be 31 the day of DEB!)

Occupation: Higher education (student affairs)

Where in Philly do you Work?: University City

Favorite Kind of Food: medium rare filet mignon

Least Favorite Kind of Food: salmon

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Philly: I was obsessed with the Chinese food truck on 15th and Race when I worked in Center City. I’d eat there 2-3 times a week. Now that I’m in University City, I eat at the food trucks almost every day. Chicken satay tacos from Cucina Zapata, burgers from SpotBurger, the list goes on and on.
