Sweet Tofu Custard at Heung Fa Chun Sweet House

I have passed by Heung Fa Chun Sweet House countless times and decided it was time to stop in.  They have a small menu of little snacks, many of which are desserts. The very first item on the menu is sweet do-fu dessert.  That seemed harmless enough. And for $1.25, I had to grab one.

The Classy Lunch at Fork

A little while back I asked for some help with planning a nicer lunch for my sister’s 21st birthday. We ended up going with Fork, a new American Bistro in Old City.  And while all menu items fall over the $10 range, I figured I would tell you guys about the meal anyway, since it was a really lovely lunch and a great option for a nicer occasion AND open for lunch on Mondays which is, for some reason, not the case with many Philly restaurants.

PROFILE: Philly Luncher “Erin”

As is customary at Philly Lunch, every Tuesday we turn over the site to a different lunch’er for his or her recommendations for the best lunch in Philadelphia. This week it’s Erin, who loves veggies and cute cats.

Name: Erin

Age: 23

Occupation: Law Clerk

Where in Philly do you Work?: A law firm, around 16th & Walnut

Favorite Kind of Food:Various vegetarian fare. Most Asian cuisines (shout out to my Filipino mommy) and potatoes in any form (and my Irish pops). Mexican, Italian, & Ethiopian cuisines. Pizza, sandwiches, mac & cheese, fruit, DQ blizzards & marshmallow sundaes, Bomb Pops, CPK’s Mediterreanian Salad, tuna on toast, my mom’s cooking, cheese, candy, pie, and sweets in general, pretty much.

Least Favorite Kind of Food: Sundried tomatoes. Sick.

Favorite Place(s) to Eat Lunch in Philly: These are in no particular order because I love them all dearly. The Foule or the Vegetarian Combo from Almaz Cafe (20th Street, just above Walnut) – these Ethiopian delights are absolutely must-try, if you haven’t already. The vegan cheesesteak from Mi Lah Vegetarian (16th, just below Walnut), or a vegan chicken cheesesteak from Govinda’s (SW corner at Broad & South). Any lunch special from Su Xing House (Sansom, between 16th & Broad), with miso soup, brown rice & a spring roll. Tampopo’s fresh tuna bi-bim-bob (more about that in a moment). On days I don’t feel like anything big, I’ll just get a pear from Sue’s Produce Market or a chocolate croissant from Le Bus (both on 18th St. between Walnut & Chestnut).

To-Go Specials at Glatt Delight: Glatt Delight recently rolled out some to-go specials with $6 shawarma on pita and $4 falafel on pita. I am liking these lowered prices.

Mexico on the Square Shows Us How to Make Their Super Sopes

Mexico on the Square opened 2 months ago from the same crew who ran the now closed Savoy flower shop/taqueria (which I first heard about from Luncher Matt). While they now serve sandwiches, cheesesteaks, burgers and the like- I somehow managed to look away and focus on the Mexican fare. I was psyched when I found out the sopes (thick Mexican tortillas piled with toppings) are made to order.
