Free Ice Pops From Sweetery Tomorrow: The free icy treats keep coming our way this week, but this time it's not ice cream sandwiches. Sweetery truck is doing a promo with Clinique, and what we get out of it is free popsicles in the area of Broadway & Prince St. Thursday morning from 10 a.m. to noon. I think you also get some sort of freebie from Clinique, but we're all about the food here.

The FiDi’s Yushi Has A “Build Your Own Bowl” Bar, And It’s Delicious

I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect when walking into the freshly opened Yushi on Pearl St. (btw. Cedar & Maiden Lane), but I certainly didn’t think I’d find a Chipotle-esque setup serving build-your-own rice and noodle bowls. I hesitantly joined the line after bypassing the premade hot food display of noodle dishes, overpriced dumplings, soups and the cold options of sushi rolls and salads. It turned out that deciding to fashion myself a “Yu Bowl” was a surprisingly excellent choice.

FiDi Down To Two Ruben’s Empanadas

The Nassau St. location of Ruben’s Empanadas between John & Fulton St. was not only closed, but completely gutted when I walked by yesterday. It’s not entirely surprising since it seems to be mostly empty even during prime lunch time. Never fear, though: As the sign says there’s another location on Fulton St. and one on Pearl just off Hanover Sq. to feed your empanada cravings.

As is customary here on Midtown Lunch, every Tuesday we’ll profile a different lunch’er and get their recommendations for places to eat in Downtown NYC. This week, we have Dan who would likes a good banh mi but would shun your vegan chili.

Age: As young as the mountains, as old as the wind

Favorite kinds of food: Steak, Chinese, Italian, brunch, barbeque

Least favorite foods: Any good food that’s been befouled and ruined with cilantro, cumin, licorice/anise/fennel or mushrooms. And vegan.

Favorite lunches downtown: L41 (aka, beef with crispy fried egg noodles) at Nha Trang (Multiple Locations), the buffet at Salaam Bombay on Greenwich (btw. Duane & Reade), the classic banh mi sandwiches at either Paris Sandwich (Multiple Locations) and Banh Mi Saigon Bakery on Grand (btw. Mulberry & Mott).
