Texas Rotisserie Starts Serving Up $6 Meals

It’s been quite some time since I’ve hit up Texas Rotisserie & Grill on Fulton St. (btw. William & Gold), the place where you can get jerk chicken wings and BBQ pork in one convenient location. Now, they’ve added meals for $6 to the menu, and I’ve got to say I’m likely to be lured in with the fish sandwich, chicken wings or beef bowl. Just stay away from the items involving BBQ sauce and you’ll be fine.

PROFILE: Downtown Lunch’er “Christian”

As is customary here on Midtown Lunch, every Tuesday we’ll profile a different lunch’er and get their recommendations for places to eat in Downtown NYC. This week, we have Christian who has a slightly different outlook on lunch than a lot of people, meaning he’s not much of a desk Lunch’er.

Name: Christian Cervegnano

Occupation: Apple systems engineer in the IT department at a small educational book publisher.

Where you work: Wall and Nassau streets
Age: 41

Favorite kinds of food: Mediterranean cuisines; Flavorful food with a nod to healthy eating but I’m also a sucker for fried fish, I must admit.

Least favorite foods: Chinese or Thai stir-fry dishes typically turn me off. And I know these are hamburger days in NY but I can only eat about one burger a month.

Korilla, Bistro Truck, Fishing Shrimp in Soho: Palenque is on the ML Downtown Twitter Tracker today at Wall & Hanover, Hibachi Heaven's at Water & Broad, Mike N Willie's has a special fish slider at Front & Wall, Our Hero's is at Wall & Water, Korilla's at Varick & Vandam, Bistro Truck's at Varick & Charlton, Fishing Shrimp truck's somewhere in "west Soho," and Big D's Grub's at Old Slip & Water. Lent Space has Taim, Schnitzel & Things, Rickshaw, Mexico Blvd. and Kelvin Slush while the WFC lot has Frites N Meats, Phil's Steaks, Rickshaw, Andy's Italian Ice and Bongo Brothers.

New Amsterdam Market Bringing Vendors To Us Mid-Week

Some of you may be familiar with the New Amsterdam Market which brings together different vendors selling food and other items on Sundays underneath the overpass on South St. by the Seaport. You’ll be happy to hear that this Thursday some of the food vendors are doing a special lunch at the Pier 16 Marginal Wharf (that’s at South St. & Fulton) from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. that involves some places we would normally have to take the subway to enjoy. If you’ve ever thought how awesome it would be to have lunch involving Porchetta, Lonestar Tacos, Black Tree Sandwich, People’s Pops, La Newyorkina or Luke’s Lobster in one convenient location now’s your chance. P&H Sodas and Pushcart Coffee will also be on hand for your beverage needs.

Munchie Mobile Truck Will Appeal To Your Inner Stoner With Its Sandwich Offerings

There are trucks out there serving crazy sandwiches and burgers – the Feed Your Hole truck instantly comes to mind – but they don’t often come downtown during lunch hours. Munchie Mobile hit the streets a while back but it wasn’t until late last week that I was able to catch up with the truck during a stop at the Lent Space food truck lot at 6th Ave. between Canal & Grand. I’d looked over the menu before getting there and it’s pretty vast with several variations of burgers, grilled cheese, chicken sandwiches, fried items and some other combos thrown between bread that breached the $10 mark without including a side. I mean, if you’re eating a triple decker grilled cheese involving a hamburger patty, jalapeno poppers and fries (that would be the Gangsta’s Paradise for $11) you’re not going to be needing some onion rings on the side.
