Renovations Close Dee Daa This Week

Some of you may have walked by Dee Daa (44th St. btw Lex+3rd) this week and thought, or maybe even hoped, that they had closed down. Sorry Lunchers, but the disappointing Thai lunch spot is merely closed for renovations and is expected to reopen early next week. Is this another reset for the restaurant? Does anyone even care?

Still Waiting for Dee Daa to Get Their Sh*t Together

I stumbled upon an advertisement in the Metro dated on the same day it was handed to me (Oct. 22) asking, “Have You Tried the New Dee Daa?” The ad had a full page spread of some sweet deals for a $5 entree or a $7 entree plus soup or salad (they call this a bundle). The fine print advertised that the deal expires on Halloween, October 31… so being the thrifty Luncher I am, I made my way to Dee Daa Balanced Thai (44th btw Lex+3rd) immediately. Early last year, Blondie gave them a shot just as it opened and really hoped they would work out the kinks. I was curious to see if they had.

I Found a Midtown Lunch Amidst the Fancy Food at Grand Gourmet

Last night was the annual gala Grand Gourmet at Vanderbilt Hall in Grand Central Station. I was fortunate to attend (as was our lucky winner Luncher meyekull) and I stuffed myself silly getting samples at almost all 39 of the food vendors. Most of the tastings were from fancier restaurants that are quite a bit out of ML’s price range. However, surprisingly enough my favorite happened to be a true Midtown Lunch.

Hopefully Dee Daa Balanced Thai Will Work Out the Kinks

Dee Daa

I’ve been patiently waiting for Dee Daa Balanced Thai (44th btw Lex+3rd) to open, so much so that I even braved the opening day crowd shenanigans! One of our main questions was “What is balanced Thai?” According to them, it means “tastes good” and “good for you.” With all this talk of the newish Pure Thai Shophouse, I’d been craving some good Thai worse than ever- and quite frankly could care less whether it is good for me or not. Dee Daa may not take the best Thai in Midtown prize away from the west side, but with some work it could fill our east side Thai food gap.

Dee Daa “Balanced Thai” Coming to 3rd Ave.

Dee Daa

As I was getting lunch on Friday, I noticed a unique bit of plywood on 44th between 3rd and Lexington announcing a new lunch spot: “Dee Daa, Balanced Thai To Go.” Since they say “Thai” I’m going to allowed myself to get excited, we don’t have much in the way of Thai food in Midtown East, and every little bit helps towards my tummy’s happiness-even if it sounds like some kind of weirdo “healthy” Thai. Supposedly it’s coming soon, but a quick check on the Google came up that it was actually scheduled to open way back in October, so we won’t know how soon “soon” is until it happens. Hopefully we should have ample time to ponder what exactly is “balanced Thai”.
